With the release of Cognos 8, there is a need for migrating reports and the associated Business Rules from the previous versions of ReportNet to Cognos 8. The migration will allow customers to:

Use new features of Cognos 8.

Avail of the expertise of the NRIT Inc consultants to redesign and enhance the old reports (if
Needed) by leveraging the new features of Cognos 8.

Standardize on a single BI platform.

Be ready when Cognos stops supporting the earlier versions of the software.

The NRIT Methodology

The NRIT Methodology can be broadly divided in to two phases:

Assessment and Design.

Implementation.

Assessment & Design
	The assessment will involve:
	Running reports in old and new Environments in our LAB.
	Going over a checklist of items that Could cause a report not to work Properly in the new environment.
	Go over the metadata definition and Structure.
	Find out project and end user Requirements.
	Check if the report needs any Dimensionality or OLAP features.
	Check to see if the old reports have been developed according to the Cognos best practices.
	Find out the custom SDK programs the customer has implemented
	Find out any customization that has been done by the customer.

Implementation Phase
	Set up the new infrastructure and redo any customizations implemented in the older version.
	Migrate and modify the framework model.
	Migrate the reports, which do not require any changes.
	Redesign and redevelop the remaining reports in the new environment.
	Move over the refactored SDK code.
	Provide end user training for user adoption.

Server Configuration for Cognos 8
Actual hardware requirements can be determined after analyzing:
	The number of concurrent users.
	Server availability requirements.
	Physical location of servers,
	Complexity and number of reports etc.
	Following are the minimum requirement of hardware for hosting a Cognos 8 reporting application.
	Dual CPU (Physical).
	2 GHZ Processor
	1 GB RAM per CPU
	Once the reporting application details are known, more informed capacity planning could be done.
